Mass. Healthcare Company CEO Is Charged With Assault

WAREHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Southcoast Health President & CEO Keith Hovan was arraigned Tuesday morning on one count of assault and battery. WBZ's Tim Dunn confirmed the arraignment with the clerk's office at Wareham District Court.

The alleged assault happened during an apparent domestic dispute. According to an email sent from Southcoast Health's Board of Trustees to employees, an "incident" occurred on Saturday night at Hovan's home in Rochester. The Board also said that Hovan immediately made them aware the following morning.

Additionally, court documents showed that Hovan was an owner of many firearms and had his gun license revoked. His firearms were confiscated by Rochester police.

The Board of Trustees said to their staff that they have met several times since the incident. The Board also wrote that they are withholding any comments, "out of respect for the Hovan family, and to allow the matter to be adjudicated."
