BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) —Some Commonwealth residents are being bumped up on the Covid-19 vaccination list.
In a press conference on Monday, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker's administration announced that those 75 years old and older will be included in Phase Two, Group One of the rollout.
The original plan had the age group get the vaccine later in the phase, but the state made changes based on recommendations from the CDC that were released on Dec. 22, 2020.
The change will also bump up people of all ages with two or more comorbidities, or underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk for a severe Covid-19 infection. Health and Human Services Secretary Marylou Sudders said the revised rollout is going to move about 170 thousand people higher up on the list.
Massachusetts is still currently in Phase One of vaccine distribution, which includes first responders, healthcare workers and staff and residents at long-term care facilities.
First responders will begin getting vaccinations next Monday, Jan. 11 2021. According to Baker, there are over 45 thousand first responders across the Commonwealth, including firefighters, police officers and EMTs who work in state, local and regional departments.
The Phase Two rollout is expected to begin in February.
