BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The new Orange Line trains have only been on the tracks for a few weeks, but the MBTA is taking them out of service following a problem with one train’s doors.
The MBTA said that doors on one of the new cars opened while the train was in motion, causing the train to come to a complete stop. This was because a part of the door, called the bump stop, was not working properly.
Chinese manufacturers who made the trains are working to replace the part with a new, heavy-duty design.
This update will be made to the entire fleet of new Orange Line Cars.
Now, riders will have to wait a little bit longer for the chance to ride the new cars. One woman said it’s concerning that to have an issue this this so soon after they were first rolled out.
“There’s always going to be a problem with these things,” she said. “It’s like the fare goes up, the service goes down.”
The new trains should be back on track on Monday.
