BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Commuters on the Red Line Thursday morning experienced a delayed commute as officials work on a "mechanical issue" near Alewife, according to the MBTA's Twitter.

Then a tweet an hour later from the MBTA said a mechanical problem near JFK/UMass would cause northbound delays.

Although the MBTA has been estimating waits of 10 to 15 minutes, some riders claim the wait is longer. There has also been a reported residual effect on the bus system.
