BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Brockton School Committee voted Tuesday night to have vetted volunteers support teachers and students inside the beleaguered high school that is experiencing an escalation of violent incidents by students.

In the most recent incident, a staff member was injured during a student fight on Monday.

Along with safety and security issues, the largest highest school in the state is also experiencing a budget crisis.

School Committee member Joyce Asack said they are receiving numerous requests from volunteers who want to come to the school and help students and teachers.

Jamal Gooding, executive director and founder of People Affecting Community Change, offered the district 100 volunteers to help regain control of the school. "We can help," he said. "Let us go into your school, right now, 100 guys, free, and restore public safety."

Among the responsibilities school officials would like volunteers to provide are mentorship roles.

Brockton's acting superintendent is starting talks with organizations and volunteers.
