MILTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A man is accused of running an illegal dental practice out of a convenience store in Milton, police said.

The Milton Police Department said they worked in conjunction with the Milton Board of Health to investigate "an elaborate illegal dental operation" at Alternativa Convenience Store at 140 Main St. Suite 7.

Juan Hermida Munoz, 64, allegedly provided multiple dental services without a license--including examinations, tooth extractions, anesthetics and cleanings--in a room in the rear of the store.

"Mr. Munoz is not board certified and holds no certifications to practice medicine within the United States," Milton police said in a statement Saturday. "This practice puts the lives of patients in danger by unsanctioned and unsanitary conditions in receiving medical treatments."

Munoz has been charged with unauthorized practice of medicine and unauthorized practice of dentistry.

Maria Magdalena Guaman-Castro, the proprietor of the store who rented the room to Munoz, was also arrested and is facing a conspiracy charge.
