Mississippi Looks To Change State Flag

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Mississippi is looking to change its state flag and it's now down to two designs.

The old flag used confederate imagery. One of the potential designs was created by a Boston man, Micah Whitson, who is originally from Alabama and went to college in Mississippi. He now owns a design businesses in Boston.

"It's a place that I very much care about," Whitson said.

Whitson chose a shield, which was used as a symbol for the state when it was still a territory. He also added some waves across the top.

"Of course, the Mississippi is our physical and cultural and kind of economic backbone," Whitson said.

There is also a star with five diamonds to represent the five corners of the state.

From thousands of designs, it's now down to two.
