BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported another 2,501 confirmed cases of COVID-19 Sunday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 217,163.
The DPH estimates more than 43,700 of those are active cases of the virus.
The state DPH also reported another 46 deaths among confirmed cases, upping the state's confirmed COVID-death toll to 10,487. There have also been 235 deaths among probable cases.
The rate of positive coronavirus tests in the state has now risen to 3.8 percent, its highest since mid-June.
There are 1,081 people currently hospitalized with the virus in the Commonwealth, and 238 patients with COVID-19 are in intensive care. More than 70 percent of Boston's 3,400 non-ICU hospital beds are currently occupied, and nearly 60 percent of the city's 700 ICU beds are currently occupied.
According to the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center, more than 13.3 million cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the U.S., and more than 266,000 Americans have died of the virus to date.
