BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health confirmed another 431 cases of COVID-19 Friday, bringing the state's total number of confirmed cases to 115,741.
The state DPH also reported an additional 13 deaths linked to confirmed cases, upping the confirmed coronavirus-related death toll in Massachusetts to 8,670. Another 231 deaths have been linked to probable cases of the virus.
According to the DPH, around two-thirds of the state's total COVID-related deaths have been linked to probable or confirmed cases of COVID-19 in long-term care facilities.
As Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Research Center reports, more than 2,000 of the state's COVID-related deaths have been reported in Middlesex County, and about 1,200 residents have died of the virus in Essex County.
Suffolk County, Worcester County, and Norfolk County have each reported more than 1,000 COVID-related deaths.
More than 1.5 million individuals in the Commonwealth have now been tested for COVID-19 through molecular tests, and more than 108,000 residents have been tested for antibodies, which would indicate prior infection.
Johns Hopkins CRC also reports that over the course of around five months, the U.S. has surpassed 5.6 million confirmed cases, and close to 175,000 Americans have died of COVID-19.
