BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported another 5,278 confirmed cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, bringing the state's total number of confirmed cases to 427,752.
The state DPH also reported another 86 deaths among COVID-19 cases in Massachusetts, upping the state's confirmed coronavirus death toll to 13,082.
The estimated number of active cases of the virus in Massachusetts, signifying the number of patients with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis in the past 21 days, rose to 90,467 on Wednesday.
Over the past two weeks, people aged 0-19 accounted for the largest portion of new cases of the virus in Massachusetts, followed by people aged 20-29.
Across the Commonwealth, 2,200 patients are currently hospitalized with coronavirus, 461 of whom are receiving intensive care.
The state's seven-day average rate of positive coronavirus tests has dropped slightly from around 8.5 percent at the start of the month to 7.1 percent on Wednesday.
According to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Research Center, the U.S. has confirmed close to 23 million cases of COVID-19, and more than 383,000 Americans have died of the virus to date.
