New Bedford Officials Calling For Justice After Undercover Cop Shot

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — An investigation is underway in New Bedford after an undercover detective was shot while sitting in an unmarked police vehicle Monday night.

Detective Lavar Gilbert was on duty in the city's South End when several gunshots rang out, one hitting him in the face.

He's reportedly recovering at St. Luke's Hospital.

City officials have been showing their concern and support for Gilbert while calling for the arrest and prosecution of whoever is responsible for the attack.
