PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The New Hampshire State Police say a State Police Staff Sergeant was killed in an overnight crash on Thursday.

State Police said the officer, Staff Sgt. Jesse Sherril was working a New Hampshire Department of Transportation paving detail on I-95 in Portsmouth when a tractor trailer hit his cruiser early Thursday morning. Police got the call just after 12:30AM.

The driver of the tractor trailer and Sherril were both taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, where the trooper was pronounced dead. The driver of the truck was treated and released.

Sherril had been with the State Police for 19 years. No arrests or charges stemming from the incident have been announced yet.

Governor Chris Sununu ordered flags in the state to fly at half-staff until sunset on Sunday, saying the "entire State of New Hampshire mourns" the trooper.
