BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — To help families experiencing food shortages, the town of Norwood is offering a free dinner to families with at least one child during the coronavirus pandemic.
With many residents staying home and out of work, town general manager Tony Mazzucco said Norwood's Incident Command team started developing a program to provide hundreds of free hot meals every week.
"We looked at all different ways we could get more food out to the community, particularly families in need," Mazzucco told WBZ NewsRadio. "We have our cafeteria workers producing breakfast and lunches, why can't they also produce a dinner once a week?"
The town provided 250 free hot family-style meals during the first week, and 350 lasagnas were made the second week. The meals are fresh cooked and can be received anonymously. The only criteria is that the family must have at least one child aged 18 or under.
