BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Security guard was indicted by a Suffolk County grand jury Tuesday for allegedly viciously assaulting an 11-year-old suspected shoplifter.
Mohammad Khan, 36, of Cambridge is indicted along with his employer at the time, New Jersey based Securitas Services USA Inc., on one count each of assault and battery on a child under 14 and civil rights violations.
The assault happened June 9 at the Boston Primark at 10 summer street. Security and customer video show Khan dragging the girl back into the store, before the 6-foot-1-inch, 225-pound Khan body-slams her to the ground, pummeling the child for several minutes while straddling her.
Khan allegedly continued to assault the child even after Boston Police separated the two.
Prosecutors say Khan had been reprimanded by his employer on at least four prior occasions for violating protocol and using more excessive force. Securitas policy forbids touching customers, including suspected shoplifters.
Despite admitting to taking about $175 worth of clothing from the store, prosecutors say the girl will not be charged for shoplifting because of her age. No word on her condition.
Securitas will be arraigned on Dec. 17. Primark is not facing any charges.
