BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — MBTA fare hikes were not the only transportation price changes that went into effect on Monday — parking meter costs have increased in some Boston neighborhoods.
According to the city, “the increase will more closely align parking meter fees with other U.S. cities,” stating that Boston has some of the lowest prices in the country.
Officials also say the increase will allow for more street-parking in the city.
“The City of Boston continues to strengthen its transportation network to meet current and future demand,” Boston Chief of Streets Chris Osgood said in a statement. “The new parking meter fees reflect current demand for short-term parking in Boston and will help ease congestion on the City’s busiest street.”
Here’s a list of the Boston parking meter hikes:
- ·Back Bay — current rate of $3.75 per hour remains in effect.
- ·Bulfinch Triangle — $2.50 per hour
- ·Fenway/Kenmore — $2.50 per hour
- ·South Boston Waterfront — $3.75 per hour, except on D Street where parking costs only $2.50 per hour
All other metered parking in the city will cost $2 per hour. Motorcycle parking will cost 50 cents per hour at all parking stalls.
