BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Boston auction company sold a wristwatch, frozen in time during the atomic bombing in Hiroshima, Japan 78 years ago, for 31,113 dollars Friday.
After the blast, the watch's crystal took on a cloudy appearance, but the hands are still visible, RR Auction said in a press release.
Halted at 8:15 a.m., the watch shows the exact moment a U.S. plane dropped the "Little Boy" atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan on Aug. 6, 1945.
"Within minutes" of the bomb landing, it killed 90 percent of people within half of a mile of the initial blast, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

Sold to an anonymous bidder, the wristwatch "marks the exact moment in time when history changed forever," RR Auction said.
According to the press release, a British solider found the watch while on a mission to deliver supplies to the city after the attack.
"The artifact, recovered from the ruins of Hiroshima, offers a poignant glimpse into the immense destruction wrought during the closing stages of World War II," RR Auction said.
