ABINGTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police spoke in Abington Friday to provide an update on the search for a missing New Hampshire five-year-old Elijah Lewis.

Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of New Hampshire State Police searched a forested area near Chestnut Street in Abington for new evidence relating to Lewis' disappearance. The search included emergency response teams, K-9 units, and a helicopter.

Timothy Cruz, the Plymouth Country District Attorney, said in a press conference police decided to search the area after new information came forward during their investigation. They did not provide where that information came from.

The New Hampshire Attorney General's Office announced earlier Friday that a search operation was underway in Abington as a part of the investigation into Lewis' disappearance. The search is still ongoing and will be into the night, according to Cruz.

Lewis was reported missing on Oct. 14 but it is believed by authorities in New Hampshire he had been missing for less than 30 days prior to the missing person report.

Danielle Dauphinais, the boy's mother, along with her boyfriend Joseph Stapf pleaded not guilty to witness tampering and child endangerment charges in the Hillsborough County courthouse. They were arrested by New York City transit officers in the Bronx last weekend.

Dauphinais and her boyfriend allegedly told others to lie about the whereabouts of Lewis.

This story will be updated as it develops.
