President-Elect Biden Picks Mayor Walsh As Labor Secretary

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has been picked to be President-Elect Joe Biden’s Labor Secretary in his upcoming administration.

City Council President Kim Janey is set to become acting mayor. She will become the first black and first female mayor of Boston.

City Councilor At-Large Michelle Wu offered her congratulations to Mayor Walsh in a statement. She is also currently running for mayor.

“There is much work to do to clean up the backwards, anti-worker politics of the Trump Administration that have hurt so many here in our city,” Wu said. “And Boston needs a partner to fight for working families at the federal level.”

All current declared candidates for mayor are woman of color.

Meanwhile, in a statement, Sen. Ed Markey said that this is “fantastic news,” and that Walsh “will bring commitment to workers, and working families that is desperately needed right now. His tremendous leadership in Boston on climate action, health care, and social justice make him ready on day one.”
