BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) – Hundreds of protestors rallied at the State House Wednesday and marched past City Hall against vaccine mandates.

The demonstration was organized by First Responders United, a group of superior Boston Police officers, firefighters and others who are against Boston Mayor Michelle Wu’s vaccine mandate for city employees.

Protestors showed up with signs with phrases like “No Mandate, No Passport” and “Shame on Wu. No Vax Passport.” Police Sergeant Shana Cotton held a City of Boston flag upside down, signifying a sign of distress and said she felt like she was planning her funeral.

"It's really, really, really twisted and sick," she said. "Taking a shot you don't want or losing your job, that is not a choice it's an ultimatum.

Others were insisting vaccines are unsafe, COVID-19 is a conspiracy and that the media spreads false information.

In August, Acting Mayor Kim Janey required the 18,000 Boston City employees to get vaccinated or submit to a weekly COVID-19 test. Then last month, Wu announced that the city was putting in a vaccine mandate for certain indoor spaces starting January 15.

Since then, three unions have said they are using the City over the mandate, including the Boston Police Superior Officers Federation, Boston Police Detective Benevolent Society and Boston Firefighters Local 718.
