RMV Changing Vehicle Inspection Sticker Renewals Starting Nov. 1

RMV Massachusetts 16:9

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles announced Thursday that beginning Nov. 1, motor vehicles passing required inspections will get a new sticker with the month the last sticker expired, valid for one year.

This means that any vehicle owner late in getting their vehicle inspected, beyond one year from the last inspection, will no longer receive a sticker displaying the month of the new inspection.

Vehicles with inspection stickers that expired last year will receive a January sticker of the current year the vehicle is being inspected, no matter the month the vehicle is inspected this year.

This change does not impact the requirements for newly purchased vehicles, which must be inspected within seven days of the vehicle's registration and will receive a sticker of the month it was inspected. It also does not affect owners who get their vehicles inspected on time or before the due date. Those owners will continue to receive a sticker with the month the vehicle was inspected.

The RMV also announced that beginning Oct. 1, in an effort to reduce paper waste, owners will no longer receive a printed inspection report when their vehicle passes inspection. Instead, they will be directed to the Mass Vehicle Check's website, where they can access and print their report. If a vehicle fails inspection, the inspection station will print an inspection report to give to the owner.
