Small Business Saturday Merges With Annual Norwood Day Street Fair

NORWOOD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The town of Norwood has turned Small Business Saturday into a celebration of their community.

On the sidewalk outside Charles River Running, owner Charlotte Walsh and her son set up a table of discounted sneakers.

"First of all you should never buy your shoes online, you really should try them on," Walsh said. "Shoes are really expensive, and you really want to get the perfect fit."

After the year we've had, local shop owners like Walsh said they could use the support more than ever. That's why the town of Norwood decided to merge Small Business Saturday with their annual Norwood Day Street Fair.

While there won't be any big crowds or carnival rides this time, if you head into the town to shop local this Saturday, they're offering free admission into next year's event.

Norwood Town Manager Tony Mazzucco said it's all about giving back, and eating local.

"A lot of these businesses, even though they're suffering, have given to first responders, given to the hospitals," Mazzucco said. "They have helped us respond and help the community, and that's particularly challenging."
