FALL RIVER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Somerset girl will soon compete against other young golfers from around the world at a major tournament in North Carolina.
Reese Huntsinger, 8, has been invited to play at the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship in Pinehurst, N.C. in August. Reese's father Mike Huntsinger coaches the Durfee High School golf team and taught Reese to play starting when she was three years old.
"[My dad] got me this plastic set of clubs and I would hit plastic balls in the house," said Reese while on the driving range at Fall River Country Club. When asked how she got good at golf, Reese said she "practiced a lot and played in a lot of tournaments."
Mike is proud of his daughter for making the world championship, no matter how well she does in the competition.
"Kids from China, kids from Mexico, kids from Canada, those are the best 8-year-olds in the world," said Mike. "Honestly, just to make it there is awesome, but I want her to soak it all in and continue her love for the game."
