The state police detained suspect Brandon Simmons after he was spotted at the Homewood Suites hotel in Peabody right off of Route 1. They located Simmons after spotting the vehicle he was driving, that he allegedly stole, in the parking lot of the hotel.

When he approached the van, a struggle and a car chase with police ensued.

He was booked at state police barracks in Danvers and is scheduled to be arraigned in Newburyport District Court Wednesday for a prior robbery of a drug store in Newburyport on Saturday, the statement said. He will be summoned to Peabody District Court at a later date for charges related to Wednesday's incidents.
