STOUGHTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Workers at Dry Pond Cemetery in Stoughton found a body in a shallow grave Wednesday, officials said.

According to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office, workers were digging a fresh grave when they discovered what they believed to be a set of human remains not contained in a coffin. They notified Stoughton Police, who contacted the State Police Detectives Unit assigned to the attorney's office.

On Friday, authorities excavated the remains and transported them to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Boston.

The identity of the person, the cause of their death, and how their remains ended up at Dry Pond Cemetery remain unknown at this time.
