STOUGHTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Inch by inch the accumulated snowfall from Saturday's nor'easter eventually fulfilled the forecasts and then some. But the Commonwealth's highest total towered above the rest of New England, as the National Weather Service reported that Stoughton had received the most snow over the weekend with 30.9 inches.

The closest runner-up to Massachusetts was Islip, New York with 24.7 inches, the NWS reported.

"1st place feels good," the Stoughton Police Department said in a statement on Sunday, "we stuck to our game plan and we are champs again. It’s all about pliability and preparation. We are going to enjoy this for today and tomorrow we are on to spring."

But within Massachusetts it was a close race, as Sharon tailed right behind Stoughton with a snowfall total of 30.4 inches.

The Stoughton Police Department acknowledged the Town's competitors for the title, Sharon and Canton.

"We tip our cap to you," SPD said.
