Winthrop Police Investigating After Pedestrian Was Hit By MBTA Bus

WINTHROP, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) – An elderly man is expected to recover after being struck by an MBTA bus, Transit Police said.

The 81-year-old man was hit in Winthrop around 2:45 Wednesday afternoon while he was walking by the police station on Winthrop Street. The man was taken to a local hospital to be treated for a leg injury, according to Transit Police.

Police said the bus was being driven by a driver for the Paul Revere bus line, with whom the MBTA contracts for drivers on that route. Winthrop Police Department said the crash is being investigated by Massachusetts State Police and Transit Police. The town is encouraging drivers to avoid the area of Metcalf Square as roads may be closed during the investigation.
